A blocked account is a mandatory requirement for foreign students as proof of the ability to cover all expenses during the study period in Germany. It serves as proof of financial stability and is required for visa approval. Without a blocked account, visa applications may be rejected. Here are the Blocked Account Requirement Changes for international students in Germany:
→Before August 2024, the amount was €11,208 per year or €934 per month.
→As of September 1, 2024, the amount increased by €696 to €11,904 per year or €992 per month.
→Students can support their living costs, increasing their chances of obtaining a visa.
→Students can withdraw a maximum of € 992 monthly to keep financial security intact for the entire year.
→The amount is calculated based on the BAföG rate; BAföG is a German student finance program.
Germany has increased its minimum wage, helping students earn part-time and increasing their financial security. The minimum wage changed on 1 January 2025, it will increase to €12.82 per hour. Germany's minimum wage previously saw its highest increase from €12.41 per hour. This ensures fair wages and financial security, helping students to cover their living expenses more easily. Additionally, periodic adjustments are made based on inflation and economic conditions. These adjustments help workers keep up with rising costs, ensuring that wages remain fair and sufficient. For students and part-time workers, a higher minimum wage provides better financial independence, reducing reliance on external support. The policy reflects Germany's commitment to protecting workers' rights and promoting economic stability.
TU Munich will charge tuition fees to non-EU students from the winter semester of 2024/25 as part of the Higher Education Innovation Act in Bavaria.
→This tuition fee model includes bachelor’s programmes costing between €2,000 and €3,000 per term and master’s degree programmes ranging from €4,000 to €6,000 per semester.
→Students from non-EU countries pursuing bachelor’s or master’s programmes are required to pay tuition fees, while students from Germany, the EU, and the EEA are exempt from these changes.
TUM offers scholarships and fee waivers based on merit and financial need. The system will be socially responsible because there are several options for financial aid. These funds will be used to improve study conditions, including teaching quality, student services, and campus infrastructure.
Germany has eased work regulations to allow international students to work more hours, gain experience, and manage their finances. International students can work up to 140 full days or 280 half days per year and the maximum they can work within each week during a semester is 20 hours a week. International students on the admission waitlist also are permitted to work 20 hours per week in or out of Germany. Students from developing countries are also allowed to remain for up to nine months of on-the-job training. Moreover, the age eligibility limit has been raised to 35 years, and language requirements have also been relaxed.These policies provide students with greater financial and professional flexibility.
